DUDE, where’s my team?...in Fuerteventura

DUDE is much more than a film, advertising, and innovation company: it’s a reality that creates and invents things, events, and even games. Every year, DUDE organizes an off-site in which it awards special prizes to colleagues from all teams, earned during the “Olympics”. This year, Davide has decided to include a week in the Canary Islands among the prizes, in one of our out-of-this-world villas designed for co-working and co-living. Despite having severely limited smart working to what was strictly necessary, they chose to give the team this work trip for three clear reasons. First of all, the “Olympics” were held in the summer, and the idea of organizing a trip in November got everyone excited. This aspect gave the benefit a double value: the instant joy of winning at the award ceremony as well as the lasting impact the experience would have on the winners. Not to mention that the memories from the trip are worth more than any physical object. Ultimately, they wanted to foster unity between people from different departments who rarely interact during the workday and who may only share interests outside of work. In Fuerteventura, people from different teams lived together that week, interacting intensely with people far from their normal work routine.
We really liked the chance of bringing together people from different teams, but we were worried about our company’s organization: ongoing pitches, projects in progress. Instead, it was easier than we thought. It turned out to be a winning choice because those who returned gave super positive feedback regarding the choice to mix different figures like creative and digital. And we understood that it really makes sense to replicate it in this format.

The value of exchange between teams

The most interesting aspect here is that people who normally interact the least for work were the ones who were brought so close together. DUDE opted for our week of co-working and co-living to deepen the connections of those who have limited interactions in the office. They didn't organize it by teams focused on a specific project or to better prepare for a competition. They chose people, like the office manager, who’s usually the last to leave the office according to the agency's structure. And brought them all together to allow them to discuss different topics.
